ExperienceThrough substitute teaching, I have had substantial contact with Common Core standards and elementary and middle school course materials. This familiarity puts me in an ideal position to tutor students who may be struggling with their day-to-day schoolwork. I can help young learners push forward on skills like close reading and analysis, or, alternatively, I can help students find newer methods to engage with standard subject matter.I am prepared to tutor Elementary to Middle School Math, Algebra, Reading, Writing, Literature, Grammar, History, Geography, English, and Social Studies. My formal training through the University of Maryland, and also through the Teachers College at Columbia University, has provided me with both the tactics and the knowledge base needed to give students a solid foundation in these courses. My experience and education would all be for nothing, however, if I wasn't also interested in getting to know my students. Without a sincere understanding of their likes and dislikes, it is impossible to create a learning environment conducive to progress. Thankfully, my commitment to engaged learning means that my students will have every opportunity to meet the subject matter on their own terms.Though I am most often engaged in educational pursuits, I also like to switch gears and enjoy hiking, biking, running, and art.
